Winter tire season is here. Request a changeover online. Start now

Since January 1, 2016, auto insurers in Ontario have been required to offer a discount to drivers who put winter tires on their vehicle. The requirement came from the Ontario government and is overseen by the province's insurance regulator, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA).

The size of the discount is set by each insurer, not by the province, so we don't quote a percentage here. Ask your broker or insurer what yours is and how they want it confirmed.

What usually qualifies

  • Tires marked with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, installed on all four wheels.
  • Installed for the winter period your insurer specifies (commonly around November to April).

How to claim it

  1. Book your changeover or new winter set.
  2. Keep your booking confirmation or receipt. It shows the date and the service.
  3. Tell your insurer or broker you have winter tires installed. Some ask once; some ask every year.
